The Outsen Plate Co. was born from a problem only a true car enthusiast could understand: when we couldn’t find the perfect plate for our 1939 Ford Pickup, we made one ourselves. 

Every photo on this page comes from the founder’s own family archive, capturing a rich, personal slice of American history. 

As lifelong collectors and lovers of American history, we weren’t about to settle for the kind of throwaway nostalgia that’s everywhere these days. You know the type—cheap knockoff plates, mass-produced tin signs, faux-rust posters, and "vintage-style" junk made to look old but with none of the soul. It's all surface-level kitsch, built to be scrolled past or thrown away.

That’s not what we’re about. When it comes to honoring the past, we believe in doing it right—with care, craft, and respect. A truly great license plate isn’t just decoration—it’s a piece of design history. It tells a story. It deserves to be made with the same pride as the cars it's bolted onto, and the era it represents.

Our name honors our Outsen ancestors, early Wyoming pioneers who helped build and tame the Wild West from the ground up. Marcus Outsen, our great-great-great-grandfather, immigrated from Denmark, fought in the War of 1864, and helped shape the American West alongside his wife Esther. Their descendants—including Bennett, Charles, Mary Ramsay, and General Robert Outsen—carried forward a legacy of grit, craftsmanship, and attention to detail that runs deep in everything we do.
